Ford Scorpio RS6 version 1.0

This is an RS version of my Scorpio 24V Ultima model. While the car never existed in RS form and Ford never entered it into any sporting events, many elements of this model do exist in reality. There was an RS pack marketed but it was a purely cosmetic interior pack; part wood steering wheel and Recaro seats. There were never any official performance upgrades available from Ford.

There is very little shared with my original Ultima model - apart from the base model and overall textures, pretty much everything has been changed. Shader is new, a tweaked version of ElTate's, with Boomer541's glass shader. Rims were scratch made for this car, the front end bodykit is based on one which was custom built by a member over on the Scorpio owners forums from Ford and Audi bodyshop remnants.

Almost everything in the car.ini has been changed. This is my first venture into pacejka, peak grip has been dropped to about 9 degrees to make the tyres feel sharper, they also have a bit more grip at higher slip ratios, it doesn't feel so loose now once it loses grip. It will now pull about 1G into corners, probably not realistic but I like the way it drives, the old one was just too understeery.

Wood finish on interior and steering wheel is burr maple, darkened heavily. Pretty much all custom textures are based on images found on the net and altered in Paint Shop Pro, including the 'RS6' logo which uses a new style RS logo as a base and doesn't exist IRL.

Sounds are the same as before but tweaked with the nearest sound I could find to a supercharger added. They're also not so LOUD this time. I quite like them TBH although they're not perfect, admitted. I did search around for sounds but with little luck, decided to stick with what I had and try tweaking them, it does sound very tuned V6 now. Feel free to change them if you don't like them. Wind sounds are from the default Lambo.

Specifications of the model:

- Enlarged brakes - 315mm front, 285mm rear

- Stiffened anti-roll bars and shocks

- Rebuilt 24v with balanced forged pistons and crank, redline raised to around 6500rpm

- Compression ratio lowered and supercharger/electronic pump driven intercooler fitted, to even out the mid-range 'camminess' of the Cosworth lump

- Custom twin stainless exhaust

- MT75 5 speed manual gearbox, 7.5" LSD diff with lowered ratio

- Retrimmed raven (charcoal) leather interior, dark burnt maple veneer

- Special edition 18" RS 7 spoke alloys, soft effect, polished. 235/40 R18 tyres

- Unique 8 colour colourpack; Moondust, Winter Gold, Zirconia, Radiance, Russet, Forest, Frost, Ultraviolet

Some bulk could be lost through aluminium bonnet/boot and loss of some gizmos and soundproofing. Aircon, full instrumentation and the Ford 'premium' hifi would stay however. I did consider originally making it AWD, Ford did indeed manufacture a 4WD transfer box for the Sierra and Mk3 Granada which would also fit the Scorpio. This stays RWD at the moment though, more character in the handling.

300bhp+ IS possible from the 24v lump, albeit with a rebuilt bottom end. Turbo Technics built a (320bhp from memory) turbocharged 4WD Scorpio with an MT75 box but never marketed the kit; the converted car is still used as a daily driver by one of the guys who runs the company. There are several other heavily modified Scorpios around in the UK, most used on track. Large handling improvement on track is said to come from seam welding all the spot welded joints on the shell, making it a lot stiffer.

Performance:

0-62mph (100kmh) = 5.8sec

0-100mph (160kmh) = 12.9sec

1/4 mile = 13.8sec @ 104mph

50-70mph in top gear = 6.6sec

Top speed = 173mph @ 5400rpm (would be limited to 155 or 160mph IRL)

Power output: 312bhp(364nm)@6120rpm, 442nm@3150rpm

Credits, thanks:

Tyre tread texture and mesh grille texture are slightly modified from Cesar's website (www.cesar3d.fr), brake disc tex from Loungekid's Jag Mk2. Wheel texture was created in Zmod, (poor) tyrewall texture is from my car's untouched, original P6000 spare. Pretty much everything else is my own creation.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to Racer in general, namely:

-Ruud, for creating Racer

-Shmelby Racing, who's Ford Taunus was the first car I downloaded for racer and which got me into modding (many happy evenings once I got 0.50f running at more than 2fps) and which this project also started life as.

-Ryan T for the zmodeler tutorial among others

-Oleg for creating zmodeler

-Blender foundation for the brilliant Blender program which I now use most times, Boomer541 for the tutorials which got me interested in it

-IH8COPS for the Racer Wiki reference which helped me greatly

-ElTate for the original Scorpio 24v shader which I've used most of in this version - better than any shader I could code

-The people who kindly run and maintain the RSC forums

-stecki@quakerally.com http://stecki.racesimcentral.com for the male driver

-Last but not least, Ford for creating the Scorpio and the guys over at fordscorpio.co.uk who maintain what is one of the most friendly and informative forums/websites online. Kudos to you guys.

Many others who I have doubtless forgotten.

Please post any comments/bug reports/suggestions on the RSC forum thread as this will help us progress.

I think that's all ;-)

Regards, TiberiuS.
